Silver Blue

Silver blue is a simple minimalistic responsive theme built with elegance in mind. The theme design has been made as simple as possible to allow for easy customization. To add a little bit of variety, the theme comes in 2 different flavors. Due to its simplicty, its easy to change the styles to any other color flavor that one desires.

Silver Blue (Original blue flavor)

blue flavor

Silver Red (Red flavor)

red flavor

Main features

1. Responsive
2. Custom Drop-Down menu
3. Well structured design
4. Featured images
5. Elegant look ‘n’ feel

Theme Installation

The theme was built and tested for WordPress 3.5.0 and above. Any versions prior to this might not work with the theme.  To complete the nice look of the theme, the Pagenavi plugin for navigation needs to be installed. All of the required files can be downloaded from wordpress.org, however, I will also include the files here for convenience and to avoid confusion with changing version numbers and compatibility problems. Follow the installation steps carefully.

Download (wp-pagenavi.2.83.zip, wp-pagenavi-style.zip and silverblue.1.0.2.zip)

1. Download and install the WP-PageNavi plugin (version 2.83).
2. Download and install the WP PageNavi Style plugin.

3. Download and install Silver Blue (version 1.0.2).

Note: if you downloaded the files from here, you ONLY need to install the two above plugins, the changes that the plugins require have already been included in the theme. If you already use these plugins then there is no need to install them again. However, if you downloaded and installed Silver Blue from wordpress.org and want to install the plugins too, then you need to finish installation of the plugins:

Go to Appearance -> Editor -> functions.php (Theme Functions)

Find the two lines

<div class="nav-previous alignleft"><?php next_posts_link( __( '<span class="meta-nav">&larr;</span> Older posts', 'silverblue' ) ); ?></div>
<div class="nav-next alignright"><?php previous_posts_link( __( 'Newer posts <span class="meta-nav">&rarr;</span>', 'silverblue' ) ); ?></div>

Replace with

<?php wp_pagenavi(); ?>

If you have any problems with installing the theme or any other issues related to the theme then please post here and I will reply as soon as I can. I get really busy at times working on other projects so i might take a while before replying.

      Exactly what are you trying to do? Do you want to move the menu bar to the topmost part of the page and then get rid of the blog title text? Or you would want to keep the blog title text but show it just below the menu whilst making the menu topmost part of the page? Can you please specify what you are trying to do with as much detail as possible because the change of one thing requires the change of other things too.

    Nice ! elegant wordpress theme !
    I install it, but I have a bugs : – background color under menu not appear – - is white ;
    – menu selected disapear ( font white on background white) ;
    – in header I can see header text OR header image , not both .
    P.S. I download from this site theme and plugins ( following your instruction)

      Hie, sorry for the late response. Been a little busy lately. The background color of the theme is not changeable yet as I didn’t get to implement that. This implementation would also require a redesign of other images and sprites that are specifically made for the white background at this stage so i decided to postpone it.

      In the header, I had to make the tough decision to only show the text or the header image because trying to show both was affecting the presentation and layout I was aiming for. The other problem is that I can’t actually make both the header text and image to show at the same time in such a way that looks good to everyone who uses the theme. Some might want the text to be left of the image, or may be above or below the image. So I sort of left this to be something that the user would tweak themself as they see fit. The header image issue is not actually hard to fix but you would need to know a thing or two about php and stylesheets then you can modify the header.php file and the corresponding styles in the style.css to get the look that you are aiming for

      So the background and the header image issues are not really bugs but more like features in this version of the theme. When I update the version next time I will try to address these two things and maybe make them configurable.

    Nice theme, simple and well laid out. I would love to use it but the wife doesn’t like the blue menu buttons (or red for that matter) Wants it to be the same color as the font in her logo (dark brown) which I thought would be easy, but replacing the RGB “blue” values with the RGB “brown” values in style.css leads to no changes. And while I can see the differences in the red and blue style sheets, not sure how to use one or the other as they don’t seem to be active (?)

    So my pitiful HTML/CSS hacking skills have been stumped. Any chance you have some time to explain either why it can’t be done or what I need to do to change the menu color?

    1. AlappinAlappin Post author

      Hi Steve.

      You need to change the background linear gradient in the css for the “.main-navigation”. I have changed the lines below to produce an approximate dark brown gradient color for the menu:

      Find these lines in style.css (assuming you are using the blue one):

      .main-navigation .current-menu-item, .main-navigation .current-menu-item:hover,
      .main-navigation .current-menu-ancestor, .main-navigation .current-menu-ancestor:hover,
      .main-navigation .current_page_item, .main-navigation .current_page_item:hover,
      .main-navigation .current_page_ancestor, .main-navigation .current_page_ancestor:hover {
      background: linear-gradient(rgb(70, 138, 248), rgb(26, 103, 235)) repeat scroll 0% 0% transparent;
      background: -webkit-linear-gradient(top, rgb(70, 138, 248), rgb(26, 103, 235)) repeat scroll 0% 0% transparent;

      Replace the two background lines with lines below:

      background: linear-gradient(rgb(233, 196, 178), rgb(164, 122, 102)) repeat scroll 0% 0% transparent;
      background: -webkit-linear-gradient(top, rgb(233, 196, 178), rgb(164, 122, 102)) repeat scroll 0% 0% transparent;

      Note: the other two stylesheets are not active by default because wordpress only uses the file named style.css. So if you want to activate the red one, then you have to rename it to style.css and delete the old style.css so that wordpress can pick it up. Or you can copy all the content from style-red.css and paste it in style.css. If you decide to change you can just copy the style-blue.css content back into style.css. In future version I will try to make it configurable in the admin section. Hope this solves your problem.

        Hey cool, thanks for the quick response! That worked a treat!

        I used different values for the gradient but even I can figure that out…

      HI gwen,

      Sorry for the really late reply, I have been busy with other stuff and not been checking the blog comments. Anywhere, you say “widgets are not functioning”. Can you please provide more information on exactly which widgets and if they are custom also their version numbers and where I can get them so that I can test them on my side.

  3. Joeri

    I’m trying to make a div at the right of the sidebar to show ads with a position:fixed. I’m using a widget for that now, but the chance that people click on it by accident is minimal. I tried to make a div in index.php at the top of the document, but it won’t work. Does this have to do something with the max-width?

    The HTML-widget is also not working. So do I have a button where the a href tag is placed around but the button is not clickable. The facebook fan-widget box(More information)is an iframe and visible, but I cant click the ‘like’ button.

    But, I really appreciate your hard wok for this genius theme! If you can fix this little thing, then is this theme really perfect!

    Sorry for my bad English,

    1. Joeri

      Mhh. I looked to the widget-problem and it’s always the 1st and 2nd widget that’s broken,whatever’s there. I can’t see why in the code :S.

      1. AlappinAlappin Post author

        Hi Joeri,

        Can you please provide the actual names of the widgets and if they are custom, specify their version numbers and were I can get them from then I will test them on my side.
        I was not aware of any widget problems with the theme.

          1. AlappinAlappin Post author

            Hi Joeri,

            There must be something you changed in the original theme that is causing that to happen.

            To see whether this is an issue with my theme, install the theme on its own without any changes and then add those two widgets in the adminusing the text widget. You will see that both of them work fine.

            I tested this with the original unmodified theme and the Yellow button is clickable whilst the facebook iframe works fine too. So it must be the custom changes you did to the theme that are causing that. I can’t be of much help since I do not know the changes that were made. But I believe if you compare the differences between the original and your modified one you will eventually find the problem.

    thanks a lot for this great theme. I just have one problem with it. I’m using a custom menu, because i don’t want to name my front page “Home”. But when i change the menu to a custom menu, it has a diffent style than the standart one. But i like the standart menu style better. Is there a way to get the menu style from the standart one to my custom? Or can i change the front page name “Home” to something else?

    1. AlappinAlappin Post author

      You can do it in two ways. One would be to apply the styles defined for the default menu to your custom menu. You can search the styles.css and see which style definitions are used for the default menu. Refer to the post above from Stevie Chambers to see which styles to search for. The other way would be to change the coding so that the text says what you want. Refer to http://wordpress.org/support/topic/wp_page_menu-re-name-home?replies=6.

    Hi, Alappin,

    The theme is very nice, and I love it.

    I have a question that I don;t know how to set the front page just show summary, could you please help?

    I try replace with in content.php, but it dose not work.
    I also set the option in wordpress read section, but also does not work.

    Could you help me how can I modify to show just summary, thank you!

    Kind Regards

    1. AlappinAlappin Post author

      Hi Bill,

      I am not sure what you mean by setting the front page summary? Can you please elaborate further.

      If you are referring to showing the first part of a post as a summary then you can do that as you create the posts in the editor using the “Insert More Tag” button that is located beside the spell checker button.

    Hi, I can’t figure out how to solve “hatom-feed” mistake using microdata in your theme.
    Mistake. Missing required field “updated”.
    Mistake. Missing required hCard “author”.

    I have to insert class="data updated" in function ‘function silverblue_entry_meta()’ placed in functions.php
    But still nothing works.
    I suppose the core of problem in date formatting….

    And insert
    in the same function

    Please help me figure it out

  7. Anton

    I installed your theme. I want to thank you very much for taking the time.
    You must have the patience of a saint to keep replying to all of the requests on here.
    No requests from me, just a big THANK YOU!

  8. Matt

    I need help customizing the background of the posts, and with the menu. Specifically, I want the background of the entire page to be that image, as you see it now. However, I want the post content background to be white, and I can’t for the life of me figure where in the style.css to modify that.

    Furthermore, I need the menu system to work as it does on the homepage, where the options are white in background color until selected; then, I need the selected menu item to stay with the blue background.

    Please help, and thanks in advance for doing so!
